Applying for the MBBS Program at the University of the Free State (UFS)
Application Steps:
Online Application:
Visit the UFS online application portal: https://apply.ufs.ac.za.
Fill out the application form diligently.
Ensure you have a valid email and mobile number for communication.
Document Submission:
Upload scanned copies of required documents.
Include your ID/passport, and your parents’ ID/passport if under 18.
Provide your final Grade 11 results and Grade 12 June results (with school stamp).
Submit your National Senior Certificate if you’ve already completed Grade 12.
For students with prior tertiary education, include academic records.
International students must provide USAF accreditation.
Admission Requirements:
Qualification: NSC or NCV with a degree endorsement or an equivalent qualification.
English Proficiency: A minimum of level 4 (50%) in English Home Language or First Additional Language.
Subject Requirements: Achieve required marks in subjects relevant to the MBBS program (e.g., Mathematics, Physical Sciences).
Age Criteria: Generally, a minimum age requirement is in place (often 18 years at the time of starting the program).
AP Score Calculation:
AP score is calculated based on the NSC achievement scale.
Points are awarded for six academic subjects, excluding scores below 30%.
One additional point for Life Orientation for scores of 60% and above.
International Students:
Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted by August 31.
Visa Requirements: Must hold a valid study visa for South Africa.
Medical Aid: Enroll in a South African medical aid scheme valid for the entire academic year.
Fees: International students pay higher fees than local students.
English Language Proficiency: Non-native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency in English.
Selection Process:
Application Review: Following the submission of your application and documents, UFS will acknowledge receipt and assign a student number.
Initial Assessment: UFS will communicate the status of your application based on initial evaluation.
Conditional Admission: If you meet the initial criteria based on your Grade 11 results, you’ll receive conditional admission.
Final Admission: Final admission is based on your final Grade 12 results. UFS will notify you of their decision post the release of these results.
