North West University NWU FM

PUKfm is a student-based community radio station in Potchefstroom (North West province) and broadcasts in a radius of about 15km and has 18 000 listeners. PUKfm’s primary target market is students and scholars between the ages of 16 to 25. We also have a loyal listenership of young working adults. PUKfm mainly plays Rock, Afrikaans and Pop music. This station’s aim is to educate, inform and entertain the community of Potchefstroom.  PUKfm is proud of its support of local music and that we are really in tune with our listeners. According to research done in August 2012, the typical PUKfm listener’s profile is as follows:

  • 38% male, 62% female
  • Listens to radio 1-5 hours per week

Radio Station launched on campus

Mafikeng – North-West University FM or NWUfm 105.5 was officially launched by the university on 21 October at the Mafikeng Campus Multipurpose Centre.  The Campus Rector, Prof Dan Kgwadi formally announced that NWUfm is now official and gave it his blessings and wishing it a success.

The event was attended by Campus Executive Management, representatives from the Premier’s office, business people from Mafikeng region as well as radio personnel from Motsweding FM, North West FM, Mafikeng FM and PUK FM from Potchefstroom Campus.

The station’s advertising rates were also presented to the audience which are very affordable to everyone including small developing business enterprises. The crowd were entertained by the performance of Bricks, an artist from EMI and the NWUfm presenter, Bonolo Molosiwa.

According to the Station Manager, Mr. Peter Manzana, the station broadcast mainly in English with some Setswana programming included. “The objective of the radio station is to educate the communities and to provide quality information and entertainment while at the same time producing dynamic presenters,” said Manzana. In his words of gratitude, Mr. Manzana thanked all those who assisted him and made it possible in making NWUfm a success.
