BS Divers Commercial Diving School Courses : Class III

BS Divers Commercial Diving School Courses : Class III

After successful completion of the class IV course, a student directly qualifies for the class III course. If some time has expired between these two, the student must have an in-date medical report. Where SCUBA was the primary form of diving on the first course, it will now form the backup system of the commercial diver on this and all the courses to follow. High pressure and low pressure gas supplies will now feed air, nitrox or tri-mix to the diver on demand, with communication masks and helmets being the norm. More emphasis is placed on handheld tools and the skills involved in using these in a wide variety of work environments, as using these tools forms the divers primary work function. After successful completion, students can look forward to working in a wide variety of settings, namely: Diamond diving industry, civil work projects (harbor construction, dam refurbishing) and even on offshore diving projects.

The theory consists of the following components:-

History of diving, diving physics, diving physiology, first aid, diving trauma and medical emergencies, diving procedures, underwater work, decompression theory and tables, underwater and diving emergency procedures, plant and equipment, gas handling, chambers, diver communication, environmental conditions, underwater hazards and danger conditions, basic seamanship, support, documentation, management and planning, safety, diving legislation.
Two tests will be written consisting of the Theory (60% pass mark) and the Diving Legislation (80% pass mark). If more than three years has expired since the last first aid certificate, arrangements can be made to renew this.

The practical training consists of the following:-

The various minimum bottom times the student will complete consists of the following depths and times: 0-19 meters with an overall bottom time of 700 minutes, and 20-30 meters with an overall bottom time of 100 minutes which will include the following various drills and equipment: Dives with various communication masks (Aga, Exo 26, Kirby Morgan 18, 17, 27), dry suit dives, various search techniques dives, night training dives, lifting bag and rigging tasks, compared navigation and camera tasks, hand tool and inspection tasks, HP and LP compressors, power tools, day / night and fresh / sea water diving.

Students must be medically in date to commence on this course and also bring along their basic diving gear. We will supply the rest of the gear, studying manuals and materials needed to complete the course safely and successfully. We are situated in a harbour, 30 cm from the sea, with modern classroom facilities including overhead projector, PowerPoint and DVD training material. The instructors are still actively involved in various commercial sectors bringing firsthand knowledge to the students.

Diving drills:-

We do believe that students must maintain a high level of personal fitness.

Continuously through the course various swimming drills will be executed to help enhance the students fitness level. This will be invaluable in future work efficiency and the responsibility lies with the student to carry on with a lifelong exercise regime.
