INTRODUCTION

This short learning programme (SLP) is ideal for any individual wanting to learn how to maintain an accurate record of the financial activities of a business. It offers the flexibility and convenience of distance learning, while maintaining a high level of support through an online tutor who will guide the learning process.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Be proficient in English.
  • Must be able to prepare for lectures and engage in self-directed study and students must have access to the internet.

The curriculum below is correct at the time of print. Please note that in line with academic practice, The IIE’s curriculum is annually reviewed thus changes may occur in module structure and sequence in order to ensure that the qualification remains relevant. The exit level outcomes of the programme do not change. Registered students receive updated programme curriculum on an annual basis.

DURATION

Bookkeeping and business calculations is offered as a Distance SLP, the duration of the programme varies according to date of registration..

 

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND EVALUATION
This SLP is presented via a distance mode of delivery, supported by online mediation sessions. Students will be required to complete various forms of assessments and activities, with the final assessments being written in hard copy at the site of registration.

 

PROGRAMME MATERIAL
The SLP fee includes all programme material, which becomes the property of the student. This material is a valuable source for on-going reference. Please note that the learn manual will be available in electronic format.

 

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The programme aims to accomplish the following:
To provide students with the foundational and practical knowledge of mathematical principles, concepts and methods needed to perform calculations for various business modules. This module covers the concepts and principles of appropriate accounting frameworks and policies. The module provides you with the applied competence to orderly and systematically identify and record monetary values of business transactions.

 

PROGRAMME CONTENT
The programme topics include the following:

  • An introduction to business calculations
  • Working with non-integers, percentages, ratios and proportions
  • Working with equations
  • Introduction to business, bookkeeping and accounting
  • The accounting equation and double entry system
  • Value added tax and source documents
  • Recording cash transactions
  • Recording credit and sundry transactions
  • Inventory (stock) systems
  • Debtors (accounts receivable) and creditors (accounts payable)
  • Salaries and wages
  • Year-end procedures
 CERTIFICATION

The Bookkeeping and Business Calculations Programme is a SLP that is certified by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE). Students enrolled in this SLP can apply, on successful completion, for recognition of the learning achieved, for the equivalent module offered on a full time qualification, when registering for any other IIE programmes.”
