What To Do in Cullinan South Africa

Cullinan is a small town in South Africa, but don’t let that fool you. It may not be as popular as other cities in South Africa, but it’s worth a visit. Cullinan is an upcoming tourist destination that has so much to offer visitors.

Cullinan has a lot of attractions and beautiful places to visit such as:

  • The Cullinan Golf Course (Golf Course)
  • The Kruger National Park (National Park)

Cullinan Diamond Mine

The Cullinan Diamond Mine is the oldest working diamond mine in the world. It was discovered in 1905 and has been operational ever since, with its most recent expansion having been completed in 2013. The tour of the mine takes about an hour and a half to complete, and it’s best done on a weekday because weekends can get very busy. You’ll learn about how diamonds were found and mined throughout history as well as what goes into mining them today. There is also a museum located inside Cullinan that houses many artefacts from diamonds to mining equipment used.

The Big Hole

The Big Hole is a diamond mine in Cullinan, which was discovered in 1905 and is the source of the world’s largest diamond, the Cullinan Diamond. The mine is also known as “The Great South African Diamond Mining Company Limited” or simply “The Great Mine”.

The Big Hole has gone through several changes since its discovery in 1905 by Cecil John Rhodes one of South Africa’s most famous politicians. He then sold it to De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd (then called Premier Diamond Mines) in 1908 for £1 million. It was considered an asset worth approximately R15 billion today!

Elephant Haven

The Elephant Haven was founded in 2003 and is now home to about 50 elephants. It’s located on the edge of the bushveld in Cullinan, which makes it an excellent stop for those who want to get up close and personal with these incredible animals. The sanctuary aims to restore the lives of captive elephants by rehabilitating them back into their natural environment so that they can live healthy life without suffering from abuse or neglect.

Maropeng Visitor Centre

Maropeng visitor centre is the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind. It is a great place to learn about the history of the region, with many interesting exhibits and displays. The centre also has a cafe and gift shop which makes for a nice lunch break.

Flying Foxes Zipline

If you are looking for an exciting way to see the landscape, try taking a zipline. You can do it with family or friends and at any time of the day!

It’s a great way to see the Cullinan area from above and enjoy the view of beautiful landscapes.
