UNISA Department of Police Practice

UNISA Department of Police Practice

Department of Police Practice

We are delighted to be empowering law enforcement officers and those who are interested in the field of policing, broadly defined. Through Unisa’s open distance learning model, our reach is far and wide but primarily focused on South Africa and the rest of the African continent. Policing as a means of guaranteeing safety and security is constantly changing. High levels of crime and the increasing sophistication with which crime is committed challenge both policing agencies and individual police officials to acquire adequate skills and knowledge. We pride ourselves on the development of industry relevant and academically sound curricula. We offer various qualifications in crime prevention and forensic investigation. Besides a large student body at undergraduate level, we supervise research at master’s and doctoral level.

The research that the academic staff of this department is continuously engaged in, covers broad areas of the criminal justice sector. We are constantly on the look-out for and have capacity to conduct research and training interventions, in collaboration with other entities or on our own. Feel free to make contact with any of our staff to discuss your organisational needs.
