ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER – RHODES TRUST

The Rhodes Trust is responsible for administering the Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest international scholarship program that allows candidates from around the world to study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The scholarship program was established in 1902 and is awarded to more than 100 candidates every year for full-time postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford.

The Rhodes Trust, based in Oxford, oversees the selection process and management of the scholarships. The program is open to candidates from various countries, including those in Southern Africa such as South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Malawi, and eSwatini.

ABOUT THE RHODES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Rhodes Trust is inviting students from Southern Africa to apply for the Rhodes Scholarships for the academic year. The scholarship covers postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, starting in October . MORE ABOUT THE RHODES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – TYPES OF AWARDS & SELECTION

The Rhodes Scholarships for Southern Africa include multiple scholarships awarded to candidates from different regions and schools. The number of scholarships varies each year. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for social engagement and final interviews, typically conducted by the end of November.

Successful candidates will receive feedback via email, while unsuccessful candidates will not be contacted.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RHODES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

To be eligible for the Rhodes Trust Scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Malawi, or eSwatini (refugees or asylum seekers in South Africa may also be considered)
  • Have lived in any of the above countries for a minimum of 5 years within the last 10 years
  • Meet the English language proficiency requirements
  • Be between 19 and 25 years old (or up to 28 years old for specific cases)
  • Have completed or will complete an undergraduate degree by July
  • Meet the specific entry requirements of the chosen course at the University of Oxford
  • Preference is given to candidates with outstanding academic achievements or relevant qualifications

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE RHODES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

Applications must be submitted online via the Rhodes Trust Scholarship Application portal. Before applying, candidates should read the Rhodes Trust Scholarship Information for Candidates document.

Supporting documentation required for the application includes birth certificate, ID document or passport, proof of citizenship or residency, academic transcripts, degree certificates, matric/school leaving certificate, curriculum vitae, photograph, personal statement, academic statement of study, and references from four referees.

CLOSING DATE FOR THE RHODES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

The closing date for applications is 1 August at 23:59. It is important to submit the application before the deadline.
