About the Bursary Provider – Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM):
Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) is named after Gert Sibande, an ANC activist. Prior to 2004, it was known as the Eastvaal District Municipality. GSDM is one of Mpumalanga’s three districts, primarily consisting of IsiZulu-speaking residents.
About the Bursary:
GSDM offers bursaries in various fields of study, including Agriculture, Engineering, Environment Management, Finance, Geology, Public Management, Tourism and Hospitality. Shortlisted candidates will undergo interviews conducted by GSDM representatives before final selections are made. After completing their studies, bursary recipients will be required to work for a Local Municipality within GSDM for approximately three years.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the GSDM bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Reside within the Gert Sibande District in Mpumalanga.
- Have completed Matric or be currently in Matric.
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in one of the specified fields.
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a recognized South African Higher Education Institution.
- Be from a previously disadvantaged group, with a focus on females and individuals with disabilities.
- Must not have signed any employment contracts (must be unemployed).
- Must not be a current beneficiary of another bursary scheme.
- Must not have accepted a training contract with any other institution or company.

- ID document (certified copy)
- Latest Matric results (if currently in Matric) (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (if completed Matric) (certified copy)
- Full academic record (current tertiary students) (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance to study at a recognized South African institution of higher education (certified copy)
- Proof of residence (certified copy)
- Parents or guardians’ proof of income (certified copy)
- Motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary
