Edutak Pre-School Training | edutak.co.za

Edutak Pre-School Training

Edutak was envisagend in 1988 and started part-time training programmes in the premises of Kilnerton College, Silverton, Pretoria in 1989. This was in response to a 1988 market survey in rural areas in Limpopo and informal settlements of Gauteng. Parents and primary school teachers expressed an urgent need for pre-school education in their areas. Pre-school children were uncared for and receiving little or no stimulation in their vital formative years. Edutak’s first trainees were from greater Pretoria areas and rural Limpopo. From 1990 we offered full-time courses in Basic Child Care at St Anne’s in Silverton. The courses were developed by our staff, with some bought material. We procured a site in Silverton Ext 7. As a community job-creation project, we built our Training Centre. The training centre has been fully operational since its completion in April 1995 and continued training in its own programmes. Edutak was one of the first Early Childhood Development Training Organisations to be accredited by the ETDP SETA. From 2002 to 2010 the training curse was the national certificate in ECD on levels 1 and 4, under the auspices of the ETDP SETA and SAQA. Practitioners thus earned a national certificate in ECD when they meet all outcomes. From 2011 the course has been the Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate in ECD. Our course materials meet the accreditation requirements of the ETDP SETA . Later in September 2012 we were accredited to offer the Higher Certificate in Level 5. Monitoring takes place at the beginning of the programme. With pre-assessment, training, moderation and finally verification which is done by ETDP SETA and the awarding of certification. A feature of Edutak’s work is that we send trainers to the people. Thus we have conducted training courses in the rural areas of Limpopo, North West, Free State and Mpumalanga provinces. Edutak goes where not other training organisations go, meeting a desperate need in neglected communities.

Mission Statement

Edutak’s mission is to equip women from especially the informal settlements and rural areas with quality early childhood development and entrepreneurial skills to enable them to be employed in ECD or to start self-owned early learning centres providing quality pre-school programmes in their communities; and to use all funds raised to the maximum direct benefit of the target groups to ensure that the aims of funders are met.

Aims And Objections

To provide accredited training courses for ECD practitioners leading to national certification; after-care service in the form of assessment, guidance and mentorship, learning aids and materials to practitioners, their centers and communities. Additional courses in crucial fields such as HIV/AIDS and child abuse; a solid foundation in life as to many children as possible.

Current Status

We believe that we have become the largest and most successful ECD NPO training organisation nationally, based on the number of students to achieve the national certificate and the FET certificate. We are one of a handful of organisations fully registered with the ETDP SETA and the Department of Higher Education and Training.
