About Allan Gray Orbis Foundation:

Established in 2005 by Allan Gray, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation aims to make a lasting and sustainable contribution to Southern Africa by supporting budding entrepreneurial talent. The foundation focuses on instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in young people to help them address historical injustices and contribute to the region’s economic and social transformation.

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation High School Scholarship 2025:

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation offers the High School Scholarship program for the academic year 2025. This scholarship is available to Grade 6 students (entering Grade 8 in 2024) who demonstrate significant entrepreneurial abilities, excellent academic performance, and financial need.

Recipients of the scholarship are placed in partnered schools, which include:

Scholarship Coverage:

The scholarship provides the following benefits:

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship:

  • Be a citizen of South Africa.
  • Age between 11 and 12 years old (neither older nor younger).
  • Currently in Grade 6 during the 2023 school year.
  • Starting high school (Grade 8) in the 2025 school year.
  • Demonstrated financial need with a cumulative household income of less than R20,000 per month.
  • Minimum of 70% in English and Mathematics in Grades 5 and 6.
  • Minimum overall average of 70% in Grades 5 and 6.
  • Possess entrepreneurial qualities, including self-efficacy, a growth mindset, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.

Selection Process:

The scholarship selection process involves several steps, including application submission, a Grade 6 Foundation exam in Mathematics and English, interviews, placement school interviews, recommendations from placement schools, and signing the Memorandum of Agreement.

Applicants must submit the following documents along with the application form:

  • Certified copy of birth certificate.
  • Certified copy of identification document.
  • Recent passport photograph (black and white).
  • Certified copies of ID documents for parents or guardians.
  • Report for Term 4 in Grade 5 (certified copy).
  • Report for Term 1 or Term 2 in Grade 5 (certified copy).
  • Proof of parents or legal guardians’ income (certified copy of payslips, bank statements, affidavit, or pension income).
  • Death certificate (if both parents have passed away).
  • Divorce decree (if parents are divorced).
  • Proof of legal guardianship (if applicable).

Closing Date:

The scholarship application deadline is September 15, at 17:00 SAST. Late submissions will not be accepted.
