Bachelor of Nursing Bachelor of Nursing (Focus on Education and Administration)

Entry Qualifications for the Nursing Science Programs:

  1. A completed secondary education with either a matriculation endorsement, exemption, or an accepted international equivalent. A minimum academic score of 30 matric points is essential.
  2. English proficiency demonstrated by a minimum pass rate of 40% at the higher grade or 50% at the standard grade.
  3. A minimum pass rate of 40% in Biology at the higher grade or 50% at the standard grade.

Academic Regulations for Bachelor of Nursing (B Cur):

  • Prior to enrollment in the third-level courses, students must successfully complete all first-year subjects.
  • Progression to fourth-level courses is contingent upon passing all subjects at the second level.
  • To advance to a major at the subsequent level, students must meet all necessary prerequisites and achieve a pass in the current level’s courses.
  • If a support course or module is a prerequisite, it must be passed before registration for the subsequent specific module.

Clinical Experience Requirements:

  • Students must fulfill 4000 hours of experiential learning in compliance with the SANC Regulation R425.
  • Practical work must be carried out at health institutions sanctioned by the SANC.
  • The SANC stipulates the minimum hours required for clinical experience.
  • Students must maintain and submit a detailed record of their clinical performance, which includes specific workbooks and project reports.
  • A professional nurse must endorse these records, which are to be submitted by the 30th of September annually for assessment.
  • Full attendance at SANC-approved clinical facilities for the stipulated clinical experience is mandatory.

Bachelor of Nursing (Education and Administration) – B Cur (E et A):

  • This post-registration degree is designed for professional nurses and is recognized by the South African Nursing Council.
  • The program can be completed in a minimum of three years full-time, or over four to five years on a part-time basis.
  • Admission prerequisites include full matriculation exemption and active registration with the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse and midwife.
  • The program offers two specialization options:
    • Option 1: Nurse Educator and Nurse Manager
    • Option 2: Community Health Nurse and Nurse Manager
