The UIF is a fund established to mitigate the effects of unemployment for a short time period.

When a person becomes unemployed or is unable to work due to maternity, adoption, or parental leave, or sickness, he or she can file a claim with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

Can I claim UIF when I retire in South Africa?

The UIF Main Act, which governs the benefits payable, contains no benefits linked to age or retirement. Unemployment benefits are only available to employees who have been laid off involuntarily.
