Cape Peninsula University of Technology CPUT Bridging Courses
Bridging Courses at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
Bridging courses at CPUT are designed to assist students who may not meet the specific entry requirements for their desired degree or program. However, it’s important to note that these courses don’t start from the basics of a subject, like Core Mathematics or Physical Science from Grade 10. You should ideally possess knowledge in these subjects, even if your grades don’t meet the necessary standards.

Different institutions and universities offer a range of bridging courses, each with its unique title depending on the institution:
- Preparatory Courses to be taken before the main program:
- University Preparation Programme (offered by UFS)
- Foundation (available at UCT)
- Access courses (found at MUT & WSU)
- Courses that add an extra year to your study duration:
- Extended Courses (offered by various institutions). Also known as EDP at UL and ECP at CUT.
- Courses specifically tailored for technical subjects:
- ASPECT (provided by UCT)
- PRE-TECH (offered by MUT)
- ENGAGE (Engineering Augmented Degree Programme) at UJ
- UNITE at UKZN
Key Points to Remember:
Extended courses typically have a more relaxed entry requirement but require an additional year of study.
Regardless of the course, universities still require subject prerequisites, like Mathematics or Physical Science.
Most institutions will have you undertake the National Benchmark Test (NBT) or a similar assessment.
Not every university allows direct applications for Extended Courses. Instead, they might recommend it based on the outcome of their assessment tests.
Always stay updated with the rules and guidelines. To ensure you’re on track, it’s a good idea to get a copy of the latest Prospectus or Information brochure each university provides, as the details might vary annually.
