Total sales

Over 540,000 automobiles have been sold in South Africa so far this year, according to the group’s most recent sales data (October 2014). In comparison to October 2013 when 56,608 vehicles were sold, 59,384 vehicles were sold in total in October 2014.

Due to the slowing economy and rising loan rates, South Africa’s total new car sales in 2014 showed a slight year-over-year fall of 0.7%.

The amount of discretionary income in consumers’ pockets is a key concern for auto manufacturers. In fact, the union claims that’s the reason why the most recent statistics shows a decline in new vehicle sales. With 55,722 new car sales in August 2014, they were 1.4% lower than they were during the same month last year.
