Course Introduction

The purpose of this qualification is to confer the qualifying student with a basic knowledge and understanding of the family law system and legislation in South Africa, their application and social context, and the skills and competencies needed to deliver family-law related services to the public in the court environment.

Course Contents

The Skills courses comprises of the following unit standards.

  • Unit Standard 123216: Utilise selected skills in divorce matters (credits: 6)
  • Unit Standard: 123223: Demonstrate understanding of the legal principles of marriage in South Africa (credits:5)
  • Unit Standard: 123224: Complete pleadings in divorce matters (credits: 6)
  • Unit Standard: 123225: Demonstrate understanding of the divorce system in South Africa (credits:6)

Career Fields/Further Studies

Successful students will gain the knowledge and skills required to conduct the essential operations of court- based family law service delivery. Please enquire at the nearest Damelin Correspondence College branch for a prospectus containing information with regard to further studies.

Programme Type

Skills programmes are short courses made up of credit-bearing unit standards. Skills programmes can be seen as subjects within a National Qualification.

Programme Duration

You should be able to complete this course within 18 months.

Entrance Requirements

Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 and Computing Skills at NQF Level 3. A Further Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 4.

Student Assessment

Formative and summative assessments will assess all specific outcomes and adhere to all assessment criteria of the unit standards. Once you have been declared competent in all four unit standards (POE’s and assignments), you will be required to write and pass a Final Integrated Summative Exam to achieve the Skills Programme: Family Law Practice.

Please note that the examination fee is not included in your tuition fee. 

Certification

DCC will upload your details and results onto the National Learner Record Database [NLRD], when you have been declared competent. SAS SETA will award you a statement of results indicating the unit standards in which you have been found competent. You will also receive a statement of results from Damelin Correspondence College.
