Ekurhuleni West College Graduation,EWC Diploma Ceremony

EWC’s Graduation Ceremony took place on the 22nd of May at the Transnet Hall, Essellen Park.

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Hon. Mduduzi Manana (MP) was unable to attend the Diploma Ceremony due to other engagements whilst standing in for the Minister, who was abroad at the time. Ms Patricia Garza, Project Manager: Implementation of VCET Institutions Turnaround Strategy, was requested to take his place at the ceremony. The Ceremony was blessed by Father Bam. Tumelo Mothotoane,  SABC news anchor, presented a motivational talk and the ceremony was further honoured by the presence of the Afro Tenors, who entertained the audience with their wonderful musical repertoire.

Environmental Practice Learnership Graduation Ceremony

The Environmental Affairs Department and Ekurhuleni West TVET College hosted a graduation ceremony for a recently completed Environmental Practice Learnership programme at Birchwood Hotel Conference Centre. The Director-General of Environmental Affairs, Ms Nosipho Ngcaba, and the Principal of Ekurhuleni West TVET College, Ms Hellen Ntlatleng, presented 94 unemployed youth graduates, who had successfully completed the Environmental Practice Learnership programme, with certificates.

The Environmental Practice Learnership programme is a 12 month course, which equips graduates with skills needed to gain expertise in terms of the local government competency framework for environmental occupations.

Ekurhuleni West TVET College provided training on the following modules: Environmental Practice, Business Management, Safety and Environmental Health.

The Director-General of Environmental Affairs, Ms Nosipho Ngcaba said that the learnership programmme is aimed at addressing the environmental sector skills shortage at local government level and to assist in strengthening the skills within the environmental sector and thereby deliver on its mandate by supporting organisations in the sector.

Ms Hellen Ntlatleng, the principal of Ekurhuleni West TVET College, expressed her appreciation of the opportunity granted to the college by the Environmental Department to provide training to unemployed youth. She said that education is a societal issue, and institutions should hold hands in assisting our youth to get the education and training needed, and help to close the skills gaps the country has.

The graduation ceremony was intended to provide an opportunity for the learners to celebrate their achievements and for stakeholders across the environmental sector to come together to celebrate the graduates’ achievement.
