About Gast
Gast, established in 1961 in Pretoria, South Africa, initially manufactured waterproofing coatings for dams and reservoirs. Today, the company provides a wide range of services within the Civil & Construction industries. With firm roots in the chemical industry, Gast also produces specialty chemicals for industrial and cosmetic markets. The company is headquartered in South Africa and operates globally, with a presence in various countries, including Australia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Angola, Ethiopia, Mali, Ghana, and Cote D’Ivoire.
About the Gast Bursary Program
Gast offers bursaries to top-performing students who aspire to become part of the Gast team. The bursaries cover various fields of study leading to BEng, BSc, or BTech qualifications, including:
- Building/Construction Management
- Civil Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Quantity Surveying
The bursary covers registration fees, tuition, examination fees, prescribed textbooks, and travel expenses. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview and industry-related tests.
Upon graduation, bursary recipients are required to work for Gast for a period equal to the duration of the bursary received (i.e., one year of work for each year of bursary funding).
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Gast Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- South African citizenship or permanent residency
- Completion of Matric with Science and Mathematics
- Full-time enrollment in one of the specified fields of study at a recognized South African university or university of technology
- Maintenance of a minimum average of 70% throughout the course of study

- A motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary
Closing Date
The bursary application period is currently closed and will reopen in July 2024-2025.
