This scholarship is a game-changer for those interested in studying at the prestigious University of Cambridge. So, let’s dive into the juicy details!
First things first, let’s talk about the expenses covered by this scholarship. Are you ready? Here we go:
Full tuition fees at the University of Cambridge: Yep, you read that right! The scholarship covers your entire tuition fees, so you can focus on your studies without worrying about the financial burden.
Immigration Health Surcharge: Don’t fret about healthcare costs. The scholarship takes care of the immigration health surcharge for you.
Inbound Visa costs: The scholarship also covers the visa costs to get you to Cambridge hassle-free. No need to stress about that paperwork!
Maintenance allowance: As a Gates Cambridge Scholar, you’ll receive a generous maintenance allowance to cover your living expenses. For the 2022/2023 rate, it’s an impressive £18,744 for 12 months. And if your course is shorter than a year, don’t worry, they’ve got you covered with a pro-rated amount. Ph.D. students can receive funding for up to 4 years. Isn’t that amazing?
Travel expenses: You’ll also get a single economy airfare for both the beginning and the end of your course. So, you can explore and make unforgettable memories while studying at Cambridge.
University composition fee: The composition fee varies for each student, but don’t worry, the Graduate Studies Prospectus has all the details you need. If you receive a fee award from public authorities, like UKRI, it’s encouraged to accept it instead.
And guess what? There are even more perks covered on a discretionary basis:
- Academic development funding: You can receive anywhere from £500 to £2000, depending on the length of your course. This funding can be used to attend conferences and courses, helping you expand your knowledge and network.
- Family allowance: If you have children, the scholarship provides a family allowance. You’ll receive up to £10,944 for one child and £15,612 for two or more. It’s great to know that your family’s needs are taken care of too!
- Fieldwork support: If you’re pursuing a Ph.D., you can choose to keep your regular maintenance allowance while on fieldwork. However, it’s important to note that the Trust doesn’t fund other fieldwork, and that should be covered by your University compensation fee.
- Hardship funding: Life can sometimes throw unexpected challenges our way. But with this scholarship, you have the option to apply for hardship funding to help you through unforeseen circumstances. It’s reassuring to know that they’ve got your back.
- Maternity/Paternity funding: If the need arises, you can apply to pause your studies for up to 6 months and still receive your maintenance allowance. They understand the importance of family and support you every step of the way.
