About ILASA (Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa):
ILASA, the Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa, is an independent organization that promotes the profession of landscape architecture in South Africa. It serves as the parent organization for three regional bodies representing members nationwide: ILASA Gauteng, ILASA KZN, and ILASA Cape.
One of ILASA’s missions is to increase the competence of landscape architects in South Africa, thereby increasing demand for their services in both the public and private sectors. As part of this mission, ILASA offers bursaries to members, with a focus on uplifting previously disadvantaged communities.
ILASA Bursary 2025-2026:
ILASA operates a bursary program that provides financial assistance to students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in landscape architecture. For the academic year 2025-2026, ILASA will award bursaries to eligible students.
The bursary covers the entire duration of the study program, with funding provided for:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Books and study materials
- Stationery costs
The duration of funding depends on the type of qualification pursued:
- National Diploma (maximum of three years)
- Advanced Diploma (additional years subject to performance and other factors)
- Bachelor’s Degree (three or four years, depending on the course)
- Master’s Degree (maximum of two years)
Bursary recipients are required to work for a Landscape Architectural firm for a period equal to the duration of funding received after graduation.
ILASA Bursary Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the ILASA bursary for 2025-2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship (naturalized citizens are also eligible)
- Pursuing or intending to pursue a Landscape Architectural qualification
- Studying or planning to study at one of the specified universities: University of Cape Town, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, or University of Pretoria
- Achieved a minimum of 60% in the previous academic year
