What is the significance of Nelson Mandela Day?

Mandela Day was established to motivate people to embrace democratic values and contribute to the ideals of maintaining a just and equitable society. Nelson Mandela Day was first proposed by President Jacob Zuma in 2009 to inspire a statewide drive to engage the public in philanthropic activities.

How many public holidays will there be in South Africa in 2022?

In 2022, South Africa will have 12 public holidays, including an extra day off to honor a public holiday that occurs on a weekend. The Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994) states that if a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is likewise declared a public holiday.
