About Khulisa Academy:
Khulisa Academy, launched by Dell, is dedicated to training previously disadvantaged students in High-Performance Computing (HPC). The academy draws its name from the isiZulu word “Khulisa,” which means to nurture. Its primary mission is to support financially disadvantaged students and enhance their IT capabilities. Khulisa Academy offers a two-year HPC program designed to unlock students’ full potential and expand their capabilities. Upon completing their training, the academy assists students in securing employment to help them achieve their career goals.
Khulisa Academy Bursary Program:
The Khulisa bursary program is a two-year training initiative aimed at students with limited financial means who aspire to pursue a career in the IT field. This program is open to students who meet the specified eligibility criteria and wish to enhance their computer knowledge and IT skills. Please note that there are limited placements available for this bursary program.
Eligibility Criteria for the Khulisa Training Program:
To be eligible for the Khulisa Academy Bursary Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Minimum required pass rate of 65% in Physical Science, Pure Mathematics, English, and IT-related studies.
- Age should be between 18-24 years old (18-30 years old for disabled students).
- Willingness to study at Khulisa Academy in Johannesburg.
- Should not be receiving any other scholarship or bursary.
- Excellent communication skills and self-motivation.
- Successful completion of the Psychometric test is mandatory.
- Must be an Employment Equity candidate (female candidates are preferred).
- Part-time or full-time employed individuals are not eligible.
- Demonstrated interest in IT or High Performance Computing and the ability to work under pressure.
In addition to the above requirements, students must possess the following behavioral competencies:
- Critical thinking skills.
- Informativeness.
- Integrity and trustworthiness.
- Patience.
- Action-oriented.
Applying for the Training Programme:
Eligible students who meet the criteria can complete the Khulisa Academy Training Programme Application Form and attach the required documents. Failure to provide any of the requested documents may result in the rejection of the application.
Required Documents:
Applicants must submit the following documents along with their application:
- Certified copy of ID document or passport.
- ID photograph.
- Certified copy of the latest exam results.
- Certified copy of the Matric certificate.
- Certified copy of the latest academic transcript.
- Updated curriculum vitae (CV).
- Two references who can recommend you for the bursary (references must not be family members).
- Proof of income for parents/guardians (e.g., pay slips, bank statements).
- Proof of income for parents/guardians working in the informal sector (an affidavit showing gross monthly income).
- Pension slip for parents/guardians (if applicable).
- Audited financial statement for self-employed parents/guardians.
- Proof of maintenance payment and divorce decree if parents are divorced.
- Death certificate of deceased parents.
- A motivational letter explaining why you should be granted the bursary. The letter should be concise, highlight your strengths and weaknesses, and demonstrate your capabilities in the field.
