– Certified copy of the front page of the applicant’s ID book
– Proof of payment of the non-refundable application fee
Admission Requirements
An applicant must comply with either point 1, 2 or 3 and 4, 5, 6.
1. Applicant with Senior Certificate (prior to 2009) with University exemption, or its equivalent (NQF level 4) as determined with an M-score of 10 and at least an E symbol on Higher Grade or a D symbol on Standard Grade pass for all of the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- English
- Physical science
- Biology
2. Applicants with a National Senior Certificate with a diploma endorsement must have the following subjects, all at NQF level 4 and rating codes as stipulated:
- Mathematics (code 3)
- English (code 5)
- Physical Science (code 3)
- Life Sciences (code 3)
- Additional Subject 1 (code 3)
- Additional Subject 2 (code 3)
The applicant must have a minimum of 20 points which excludes Life Orientation
3. Applicants with a National Certificate (Vocational) must have achieved a minimum of 60% for all of the following subjects:
- Mathematics at NQF level 4
- English at NQF level 4
- Physical Science at NQF level 4
- Life Sciences at NQF level 4
Applicants must pass the medical and physical fitness evaluations to be considered for the course (medical and fitness evaluation guidelines will be available on the Mediclinic website).
Eligible candidates will be invited to participate in an interview, medical and fitness assessments as part of the selection process.
Rules and Requirements
- Students must have an average mark of 50% for each subject to gain entrance to the final examination.
- Competency must be achieved in all formative and summative practical, fitness, and clinical assessments.
- A final mark of 50% per subject is required to pass each year.
- Students will need to fulfil all requirements to complete each study year and obtain the final qualification.
- A supplementary theoretical and clinical examination will be granted (provided the student meets the criteria).
- Students may maintain credit for certain theoretical modules should they fail a year. It is important to note that the Emergency Medical Care modules are co-requisites for progression to the next year of study and therefore should the student fail one of these modules they will be required to repeat all three. In the case where a student fails a non-clinical module, the student will be required to maintain clinical proficiency through the completion of clinical practice shifts each month.
- Mediclinic (Pty) Ltd will place students for the clinical component of the programme.
- Students may not work permanent night duty during the programme.
- Twelve (12) days of sick leave will be granted per year (upon receipt of a valid medical certificate).
- Leave will be granted according to the academic programme.
- Clinical accompaniment is provided by educators, doctors, registered nurses, and registered advanced life support paramedics.
The student must provide:
- Evidence of clinical competene
- Submit a complete portfolio of evidence
Fees and Funding
Mediclinic Higher Education determines the fees annually. The fees (including uniforms) are subject to change and are published on the Mediclinic website. A registration fee of 50% of the total annual fee is required. The second payment of 50% is due by the end of June. No student will be allowed to progress to the following study year if there are any outstanding fees.
A certain number of bursaries will be allocated by Mediclinic and/or ER24 each year:
Bursary students will also be provided with a stipend to assist with living expenses, though students are expected to arrange their own accommodation and transportation to and from the various clinical facilities.
Students are responsible for the cost of any prescribed and recommended books. Other institutions requesting training for their employees will be invoiced prior to programme commencement.
Contract
Students will be expected to sign a contract with Mediclinic; bursary students will have to work back a period equal to the length of the programme on successful completion. If a bursary student does not complete the programme successfully, he/she will be liable for the programme costs and administration costs.
Student information will be shared with legislative bodies and be used for BBBEE purposes.
Code of Conduct
All students are subject to the Mediclinic grievance procedures and the disciplinary code that governs workplace conduct.

Support Services
We have an academic support system in place which assists students with study methods and provide professional counselling. We have INCON clinics in the hospitals where students are referred if professional counselling is required or assistance needed with health and wellness needs.

We have student complaint and disability policies and procedure in place to deal with student complaints and disabilities.
