Mpumalanga University Admission Requirements
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants with the National Senior Certificate:
The minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
Admission Point Score (APS) of 26
• English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
• Mathematics: Level 4
Applicants the NCV level 4:
NCV level 4 with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 50% for Mathematics and 70% in four IT and computer Science subjects.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT):
Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programme must indicate this on their application. The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied.
PROGRESSION:
Students who successfully complete this Diploma will be able to apply for admission to an Advanced Diploma in ICT at UMP or another Higher Education Institution.

BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA) DEGREE
Admission Entry Requirements
1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC): The minimum requirements for admission to a degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): 30
- English Language (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 2
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 3
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE
Admission Entry Requirements
1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC): The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Admission Point Score (APS) of 32
- English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 4
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 6
2. Applicants with the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Level 4: NCV level 4 with at least English 50-59% (Home Language or First Additional).
- Mathematics on minimum NSC level 4 or Mathematics literacy on minimum NSC level 6
- A minimum of NSC level 4 for two of Life Science, Physical Science or Geography
- South African students who have written under another Examination Board and International students must have similar scores for the same or similar subjects to be considered.
- Students who have completed a 360 credit Diploma in an appropriate field such as conservation will be considered for this degree.
- Students will be considered on a monthly basis and students who meet or exceed the minimum entrance requirements will be offered places.
DIPLOMA ICT IN APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE IN PLANT PRODUCTION

DIPLOMA IN NATURE CONSERVATION

1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate: The minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Admission Points Score (APS): – 29 With Mathematics – 30 With Mathematical Literacy
- English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 2
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 3
- One of Life Sciences or Geography: Level 4
2. Applicants the NCV level 4:
- NCV level 4, in Primary Agriculture with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 30% for Mathematics or 40% for Mathematical Literacy.
BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURE IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND RURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Admission Entry Requirements
1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate: The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Admission Point Score (APS): – 28 With Mathematics – 30 With Mathematical Literacy
- English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4

- One of Agriculture, Life Science or Physical Science: Level 4

DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Admission Entry Requirements
1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate: The minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): – 26 With Mathematics – 27 With Mathematical Literacy
- • English Language (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
- • Mathematics: Level 3

2. Applicants the NCV level 4:
- NCV level 4, with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 40% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy, and 60% in four Hospitality subjects.
BACHELOR OF DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

1. Applicants with the National Senior Certificate: The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): – 31 With Mathematics – 32 With Mathematical Literacy
- English (Home or First Additional Language) : Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 2
- Mathematical Literacy: Level 3
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (BCOM) DEGREE
Admission Entry Requirements
Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC): The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
- Minimum Admission Point Score (APS): – 32 With Mathematics
- English Language (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
- Mathematics: Level 4
- Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable
- Commerce subjects will be beneficial but are not required
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN NATURE CONSERVATION
Admission Entry Requirements
The minimum requirements for admission are: Students with the following qualifications will be considered for admission into this degree:
- A Diploma in Nature Conservation (or equivalent) at NQF level 6.
- Students who have completed a 360 credit Diploma in an appropriate field such as conservation will be considered for this Programme.
- Students will be considered on a monthly basis and students who meet or exceed the minimum entrance requirements will be offered places.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE IN POST-HARVEST TECHNOLOGY
Admission Entry Requirements
- The minimum requirement for admission to an Advanced Diploma is a three-year Diploma in Agriculture at Level 6, with an average of 60% for modules taken at third-year.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION
Admission Entry Requirements
- The minimum entrance requirement for the Advanced Diploma is a Level 6 Diploma in Agriculture. Applicants with a Bachelors’ Degree in Agriculture who wish to study agricultural extension will also be considered.
ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Admission Entry Requirements
- The minimum entrance requirement for the Advanced Diploma is a Level 6 Diploma in Hospitality Management. Applicants with an equivalent qualification with an aggregate of 60% for the prescribed major modules will also be considered.
- Applicants the NCV level 4: NCV level 4, in Primary Agriculture with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 40% for Mathematics or 50% for Mathematical Literacy.
