NICDAM Community College
NICDAM Community College was founded in 1999 and has a proven track record of excellence in training and in other social development interventions.
NICDAM is registered as an NPO with the Department of Social Development, an Educational Trust with the Master of the High Court, a SAQA accredited Training Provider, a PBO, and a member of Proudly South African. NICDAM has BBBEE level 3 Certification and implements the ‘Practical Guide to Ethical Dilemmas in the Workplace’ issued by the Public Service Commission in all work areas.
NICDAM is managed through a Board of Trustees who oversee not only the strategic planning and policy developments but also the financial management and day to day running of the organisation.
NICDAM has received unqualified audits for each year of its existence.
NICDAM is able to call on the expertise of in the region of 50 staff members both permanent and contract staff, as well as numerous associates and partners in a variety of disciplines. This range of skills allows NICDAM to adjust speedily and appropriately to clients’ needs. It is able to tailor a program to the specifics of a situation and a client without sacrificing quality assurance or legitimacy. NICDAM’s team works collectively and not within silos which adds to its flexibility and effectiveness. This is achieved by encouraging team members to work where their passion lies, but always collaboratively, so that each one is empowered and supported by the passion and commitment of the others.

Health and Welfare SETA
NICDAM is active in a number of areas within the health field, including curriculum design, learning material development and training which fall under the Health and Welfare SETA.
Accredited courses in numerous programmes including all components of community health work, dread diseases, HIV/AIDS, TB, community care, elderly care, palliative care, frail care, home based care, dementia, first aid and health related life skills for example risky behaviour, negotiation and assertive behaviour are offered.

Education, Training and Development Practice SETA
NICDAM is accredited to conduct ETDP SETA Assessor, Moderator & Facilitation Courses. As with all similar courses offered by NICDAM, they are unit standard aligned & SAQA approved. NICDAM developed these courses with those wishing to add further education and training to their existing qualifications and/or experience in mind. The courses are also valuable for those who might wish to enter the field of Occupationally Directed Education Training and Development Practices (ODETD) as a career, and have little or no previous exposure to ETD. In particular, the courses are directed at learning facilitators, assessors, and moderators, both within and outside the education sector.
All NICDAM’s courses are facilitated by a registered assessor with vast practical experience and as important, a passion for the profession. At the conclusion of the course the ETDP SETA verifies the results and the learners are registered on the National Learner Record Database.

Continuous Professional Development
NICDAM is registered with the SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions) and SACE (South African Council of Educators) as a CPD service provider, providing continuous professional development training and skills development to social service professionals. The duration of all CPD courses is three days. Courses are aligned to SAQA Unit Standards and participants have an opportunity to acquire SAQA credits should they wish to be assessed. Courses are facilitated by registered social workers with vast field experience and a passion for the profession. CPD Courses can be conducted at a venue and time of the client’s choice or at the registered NICDAM Community College at NICDAM’s national office in Centurion Gauteng.

Important to know:
- all registered social workers- must obtain 20 CPD points for each financial year
- all registered social workers- must keep a portfolio of evidence and only submit it to the SACSSP on request (the request will be based on a random sample selection)
- POE’s must be evidence based
- the submission of POE’s- will be conducted in a three-year cycle
- first time registration for SACSSP membership- applicants are obliged to commence with the CPD programme in their first year of registering as a social worker
- non-practicing SACSSP members are obliged to commence with the accumulation of CPD points in the year of their re-entry
- registered SACSSP members practicing outside the RSA are required to comply with CPD policy requirements. This includes the keeping request based submission of POE’s
- restoration of SACSSP membership: any person whose name has been removed from the register shall be obliged to commence with the accumulation of CPD points in their respective year of restoration
- non-compliance by SACSSP members envisions that the CPD approval panel will investigate the reasons for non- compliance after which the name of non- compliant members will be submitted to the Professional Board
NICDAM Community College Training
Training
NICDAM has many years of extensive experience in training both in providing entry level qualifications and continuous professional development to numerous organisations. While NICDAM provides a great deal more than training, the programme interventions are generally in the form of training, have a training component or are sited in experiences derived from training. Individuals who wish to attend a course, or even one module of a course, are welcomed.
NICDAM works with a variety of partners, both non-government and government. NICDAM has expertise and experience in developing and implementing training programmes tailored to clients’ requirements, both long and short courses. NICDAM offers a number of SAQA accredited courses in various disciplines conducted from its registered NICDAM Community College premises in Gauteng.
The vision of the NICDAM Community College is to play an important role in widening access to education and responding to development needs of society and individuals.
The mission of the NICDAM Community College is to deliver quality needs based education, learner support and assessment through qualifications, skills programmes and short courses at levels 2, 3 and 4 of the NQF (National Qualifications Framework) which is accessible to all learners and society at large.
Learning Programme Design
One of NICDAM’s key strengths is its expertise in the in-house creation of training programmes.
NICDAM has 15 years of extensive expertise in the field of victim empowerment and has developed numerous capacity building and management courses for those working in the field of victim empowerment. An example of this is the Integrated Trauma Service Delivery Model, developed for the NDSD, in which training and mentoring in integrated trauma counselling and coaching is provided to government and Civil Service Organisations officials.
Since its inception NICDAM has developed and presented a wide variety of formal and informal, accredited and non-accredited, programmes to meet clients’ specific requirements.
These have included:
- Developing and implementing HWSETA HIV and AIDS life skills training for the Gauteng Department of Education on behalf of Westcol.
- A rehabilitation programme for social workers, aimed at restoration and healing for victims of human trafficking developed for the National Department of Social Development (NDSD) and the International Movement for Migration (IOM). It has been successfully implemented in numerous shelters across South Africa.
- Developing a curriculum for the IOM designed to strengthen the case management capacity of social workers who work with unaccompanied minors, including standard operating procedures aligned with the Children’s Act (38 of 2005)
- Training, mentoring, and monitoring NGO’s implementing community dialogues/community capacity enhancement (CCE) which mitigate HIV/AIDS stigma and violence against women and children, on behalf of the National Department of Health.
