South African Road Federation (SARF) Bursary

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – SARF

The South African Road Federation (SARF) was established in 1950 as a platform for South Africans to engage in discussions about the local road industry and the administration of roads across the country. SARF facilitates communication between various sectors within the road industry and disseminates expert advice across different disciplines. The organization is dedicated to promoting the road industry in South Africa and fostering economic growth through education and training.

ABOUT THE SARF BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The SARF Study Bursary is available for the 2024 academic year. Each year, SARF awards bursaries for studies in disciplines within the road transport sector. The bursaries cover undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the following fields:

  • Road Safety Engineering
  • Road Transport Economics
  • Road Transport Management
  • Road Engineering (Civil Engineering / Traffic Engineering / Bridge Engineering / Pavement Engineering / Transportation Planning / Construction Materials / Storm Water / Environment / Construction Management)

MORE ABOUT THE SARF BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED & RESPONSIBILITIES

The SARF bursary is a partial bursary designed to assist students with study-related expenses. The value of the bursary will be determined based on the student’s needs and the decision of the SARF Council.

Bursary recipients will have certain responsibilities, including making a presentation on their subject of study to their local branch of the Federation, submitting a progress report every six months, and enrolling as associate members of SARF.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SARF BURSARY

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be eligible for the SARF bursary:

  • Preference will be given to South African residents, but individuals from SADC countries can also apply.
  • Must be studying toward a qualification in one of the road transport fields listed above.
  • Must be enrolled at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (university, university of technology, or equivalent).
  • Application must be endorsed by the correct academic authority at the selected tertiary institution.
  • National Diploma students: must have passed the first-semester (S1) exams.
  • Degree students: must have passed the first-year exams.
  • Preference will be given to those studying at advanced levels (MTech, MSc, or higher), but undergraduate students can also apply.
  • Preference will be given to full-time students, but part-time and distance learning students can also apply.
  • Preference will be given to employees of SARF members.
  • Must intend to work within the South African road transport industry after graduation.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SARF BURSARY

Download and complete the SARF Bursary Application Form available in PDF format. Indicate that you heard about the SARF bursary through https://uni24.co.za/ on the application form.

Submit clear copies of the required supporting documents along with the completed application form. These documents include an ID document, grade 11 year-end results, matric certificate, and most recent tertiary results.

Submit the application either by hand delivery to the SARF Head Office or by post to the provided address.

CLOSING DATE FOR THE SARF BURSARY

The closing date for applications is 31 August. It is important to submit your application before this date to be considered.
