About the Spirit Education Foundation
The Spirit Education Foundation (SEF) is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing scholarships to economically disadvantaged high school scholars. SEF aims to build the nation through education, one scholar at a time, by offering financial support, mentorship, skills development, and upliftment programmes. The mentorship programme motivates scholars to excel academically and in all aspects of their high school education, encouraging creativity, leadership, and community awareness.
How to Become a Spirit Scholar
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Spirit Education Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade Level: Currently in Grade 6.
- Household Income: Gross household income of less than R20,000 (before deductions).
- Academic Achievement: Achieved a code 6 or higher in Mathematics, English Home Language, and Natural Science.
- High School Intent: Intend to apply to and attend one of SEF’s partnership high schools.

Scholarship Programme Details
Financial Support
The Spirit Education Foundation Scholarship includes:
- High school fees
- Payment towards academic support
- Contribution towards school uniform
- Contribution towards stationery
- Payment towards subject-specific stationery (e.g., EGD, art supplies)
Scholar Support
The mentorship programme offers individualised support tailored to each scholar’s specific needs. SEF maintains regular communication with scholars, families, and schools to provide a holistic programme that supports academic success, emotional well-being, and skills development.
