Umfolozi College Course Offering: Boilermaker Program
Course Description: The Boilermaker program at Umfolozi College encompasses various aspects of engineering and construction. Participants in this course will:
Design and construct buildings.
Manufacture tools, machines, and engines.
Plan and build roads, bridges, canals, and dams.
Operate and maintain machines.
Design mines and mining facilities, including shafts and ventilation systems.
Course Content: The program includes the following subjects:
- Language: English, Afrikaans, or IsiXhosa (First Additional Language).
- Life Orientation.
- Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.
- Engineering Fundamentals.
- Engineering Systems.
- Engineering Technology.

- Automotive Repair & Maintenance

Entry Requirements: To enroll in the Boilermaker course at Umfolozi College, the following entry requirements apply:
- A year-end school report for Grade 9.
Course Levels and Further Requirements:
- Level 2:
- Fundamental Subjects: Language of instruction, Mathematics, Life Orientation.
- Vocational Subjects: Engineering Fundamentals, Engineering Technology, Engineering Systems, and one of the optional vocational subjects.
- Entry Requirements: Year-end school report for Grade 10, 11, or 12; or an NQF Level 1 qualification; or an approved bridging program.
- Level 3:
- Subjects include Engineering Practice and Maintenance, Materials Technology, Engineering Graphics and Design (CAD), and one of the optional vocational subjects.
- Level 4:
- Subjects include Engineering Processes, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, and one of the optional vocational subjects with a focus on Boilermaking or Sheet Metal Work.
