The University of South Africa (UNISA) is the largest university system in South Africa in terms of enrollment. It is a comprehensive university that offers both vocational and academic programs, many of which have received international accreditation. UNISA has a wide geographic reach and consists of eight prestigious colleges that offer a variety of high-quality academic and vocational programs.

ABOUT THE UNISA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
UNISA is offering bursaries for postgraduate studies for the academic year. The bursaries are available for postgraduate diplomas, honors, master’s, and doctoral qualifications in any field of study at UNISA.
The Master’s and Doctoral bursaries are aimed at assisting students with their research activities and tuition fees to enable them to register for and complete their degree studies. The Postgraduate Diploma and Honors bursaries are intended to assist UNISA alumni students with their tuition fees to enable them to register and complete their qualifications.
Bursaries are awarded based on meeting eligibility criteria, academic performance, and the availability of funds.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UNISA BURSARY
The eligibility requirements for the UNISA bursary vary depending on the level of study:
Postgraduate Diploma and Honors bursary:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of an undergraduate NQF level 7 qualification (degree or advanced diploma) at UNISA by 31 January
- Temporary registration to be activated once the application is successful
- Minimum overall average of 60% for the entire undergraduate qualification
- South African Postgraduate Diploma or Honors students in their second year of study, having passed at least three postgraduate modules in the same qualification
- Not registered for special study programs, including certificates (PGCE) and non-degree purpose programs
- Not holding a postgraduate degree at the same or higher NQF level as the registered qualification
- Not a permanent staff member at UNISA
Master’s and Doctoral bursary:
- South African citizenship or international student (preference given to South African students in an 80/20 ratio)
- Temporary registration to be activated once the application is successful
- Completion of the Research Proposal module by 31 January (for research students) and completion of two coursework modules by the same date (for coursework students)
- Not a first-year Master’s or Doctoral student
- Not registered for Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Masters of Business Leadership (MBL)
- Not registered for special study programs, including certificates and non-degree purpose programs
- Not holding a postgraduate degree at the same or higher NQF level as the registered qualification
- Not a permanent staff member at UNISA

Applications for the UNISA bursary must be submitted online via the UNISA Postgraduate Bursary Application . The application form should indicate that the applicant heard about the bursary through “https://uni24.co.za/“
Applicants need to submit clear copies of supporting documents, including their ID document, full academic record, degree certificate, and a motivational letter.
