The “Short Course in Community Asset Mapping for Change” at UNISA is an online course designed to empower agents of social change with the tools and methodologies necessary for community-driven development. Here’s a summary of the course details:

Purpose

To provide a developmental tool for social change agents to facilitate improvements in communities.

Target Group

Individuals such as agents of social change from government organizations and NGOs, Corporate Social Investment (CSI) managers, and community leaders.

Admission Requirements

A minimum of an NQF Level 4 qualification.

Compulsory access to the internet and registration as a myUnisa user.

Duration

15 weeks, equivalent to one semester.

The course is fully online.

Language Medium

First Semester: 28 November – 25 January.

Tuition Method

Assessment is based on a non-venue portfolio of evidence.

Course Content: Community Asset Mapping for Change (SCCA013)

Topics include the definition of philanthropy, its practice globally, participatory rural appraisal, asset mapping methodology, tools for change, history of Community Asset Mapping Programme (CAMP) and the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) experience in the Bojanala Region, and the roles of non-profit organizations as agents of change.
