In South Africa, May 1st is celebrated as Workers Day. This date was chosen to commemorate the day in 1913 when workers marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against a law that would have removed some of their rights. The march was successful, and the government backed down on the proposed changes.
We also remember those who have fought for fairer working conditions and better pay. We are grateful for their sacrifices, and we continue to strive for a society that is more just and equitable for all workers.
