Cape Town, South Africa, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world and it’s easy to see why. From getting up close and personal with penguins on nearby Robben Island to strolling along the shoreline of Camps Bay Beach, there’s plenty to do in Cape Town that will ensure your trip there isn’t forgotten anytime soon! With so many attractions to choose from, we’ve compiled a list of our top five can’t-miss things to do in Cape Town, South Africa. To ensure you get the most out of your visit, be sure to schedule time at each place on our list!

1) Hang with penguins at Boulders Beach

The African penguin colony at Boulders Beach is one of the largest in the world and provides visitors with a glimpse into the lives of these curious birds. The colony is a popular tourist attraction because African penguins are only found along the southern coast of Africa. Besides watching these endearing animals swim and waddle ashore, visitors will also be able to see the expansive cliffs and beautiful beaches that give this area its name.

2) Visit the penguin colony at Simon’s Town

A visit to the penguin colony at Simon’s Town is a must for any visitor! The colony is home to both African and Rockhopper penguins. Be sure not to miss the opportunity to see these adorable creatures up close and personal.

3) Get scenic shots at Camps Bay beach

Cape Town is known for its beaches, so Camps Bay is the place to go for some sun and surfing. It’s about a twenty-minute walk from the city centre, but it’s worth it when you get there. Pack your lunch and enjoy the view from one of the many scenic overlooks before taking a dip in the water or lounging on the sand.

4) Tour Robben Island

Robben Island is a World Heritage Site and former prison off the coast of Cape Street. It was one of the most notorious prisons in apartheid-era South Africa. Tourists can explore the island and learn about its history while walking through the cell blocks and looking out at Table Mountain.

5) Dive and see great white sharks off Dyer Island

Cape Town’s coastline is home to many great white sharks. The Dyer Island Conservation Trust offers guided tours by boat and on foot where you can see them at close range. You’ll also get up close with sea lions, whales, dolphins, and many other marine animals during the tour.
