By studying the Foundation Level: National Certificate in Bookkeeping, you will learn how to do monthly bookkeeping to trial balance, disclose profit and financial position, reconcile suppliers, inventory and bank statements. You will also learn to work with PAYE, UIF, SDL and other deductions, documents and VAT returns.

This national certificate will allow you to apply for junior bookkeeper, accounts clerk, payroll clerk and reconciliation positions. What’s more, you can also level up and study the Intermediate Level: Further Education and Training Certificate in Bookkeeping. This certificate will allow you to apply for senior bookkeeper positions

What will you learn in this Foundation Level: National Certificate in Bookkeeping course?

This course will equip you with the skills and the knowledge to perform the accounting function in small organisations. It will also equip you to provide support to financial administrators, accounting technicians, accountants and financial managers in medium and large organisations so that the accounting and financial management functions can be performed effectively. You will learn about monthly bookkeeping to trial balance (manual and computerised); disclose profit and financial position; reconcile suppliers, inventory and bank statements; calculate PAYE/UIF/SDL; payroll tax and other deductions; EMP201, EMP501, IRP5, IRP6 and IT3a documents and VAT returns.

 Assessments Information

  • 30% of your final mark comes from your coursework
  • 70% of your final mark comes from the final exam
  • You need at least 50% in the final exam to pass
  • You need at least 60% overall to pass

Portfolio of Evidence:

You will only receive your POE (Portfolio of Evidence) directly from the ICB offices when you register for your exam. This will consist of the assignments you have to do during your studies. When you register for your exams, take your POE with, and once you’ve completed your exam and added it to the POE, you’re done!

Exams:

Exams can be written in February, May, July, September and November each year.

ICB quality assures accredited bookkeeping, accounting, business and administrative courses. These qualifications are recognised by employers and several other professional bodies nationally and internationally which allow students to get a nationally recognised qualification, further their studies and subsequently their careers. Furthermore, successful completion of one of these accredited courses will qualify you for a relevant national certificate or diploma (depending on the course), which is registered on the National Qualifications Framework.
