SACS Junior School Opportunity Fund and Scholarship Programs Overview

Commitment to Diversity SACS Junior School is dedicated to achieving a balanced racial demographic and providing educational opportunities to deserving students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school’s Opportunity Fund and scholarship programs play a pivotal role in this endeavor.

Opportunity Fund The Opportunity Fund is designed to offer at least one place per year to a boy from a disadvantaged background, enabling access to quality education at SACS, which would otherwise be financially out of reach.

  • Current Support: The fund supports 24 boys at the school, covering various needs.
  • Success Stories: The first five beneficiaries have successfully transitioned from Junior School to SACS High School.
  • Contributions: The fund receives significant contributions from both individuals and corporations.
  • Usage of Funds: Financial contributions support school fees, academic support, uniforms, swimming lessons, transport, and camps. Additionally, the fund helps provide daily meals and psychological counseling services.

Hugo-Hamman Foundation Scholarships In 2017, SACS alumnus Richard Hugo-Hamman established 13 full scholarships through the Hugo-Hamman Foundation. These scholarships are aimed at supporting boys from Grade R to matric, particularly focusing on increasing diversity at SACS.

Allocation: The scholarships support 8 learners in the Junior School and 5 in the High School.

Criteria: These are available to boys identified as black, African, Coloured, or more broadly as “people of color.”

Objective: Apart from providing education, the foundation aims to foster future leaders who can contribute positively to the development of the country.

Application Process Applications for bursaries are open depending on the availability of further funding. The selection for Opportunity Fund-managed scholarships is based on availability, merit, and financial need.

The Opportunity Fund and Hugo-Hamman Foundation scholarships not only provide financial aid but also encompass academic support, emotional well-being, and extracurricular activities, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience for the beneficiaries.
