How Can I Apply in South Africa at Unisa

Unisa is an open and distance learning (ODL) university that allows students to create their own schedule. When applying to universities, some students will have questions and will require guidance. Unisa applications for 2023 are now open.

 

What You’ll Require

A working email address

A working cellphone number

South African applicants will require an identification number. Foreign applicants will be required to provide their passport number.

a copy of your academic credentials (eg Senior Certificate)

There is an R125 application fee that must be paid once you have received your student number.

 

Begin applying

Navigate to the Unisa website’s ‘Apply for Admission’ page.

When you arrive, you will be able to select which qualification you want to apply for. Select the type of qualification for which you are applying.

 

After reading the information, click ‘Start the process.’

After reading the information, click the ‘Proceed to ODL and Unisa’ button.

Scroll back up to the top and click on the circle with a number 2 inside that says ‘Are you certain about your career?’

Scroll back up to the top and click on the circle with a number 3 inside that says ‘Choose or find your qualification?’ (For more information on the courses available and the various faculties, scroll down to the section titled ‘Explore qualifications by interest fields.’) To return to selecting, click on the circle with a number 3 inside that says ‘Choose or find your qualification?’ once more.)

You can then narrow down your qualification options by college (faculty) or level.

 

Once here, you will find the various qualifications that Unisa provides in that college/faculty. When you click on the various qualifications, you will find information such as admission requirements, and when you click on ‘Registration and curriculum information,’ you will find the modules that belong to that particular qualification.

You then return to the page that displays the various qualifications available with the step circles on top.

 

You have now located the qualification for which you wish to apply and should click on the circle with a number 4 inside that says ‘Apply for admission.’

After reading the information, click ‘CLICK HERE to apply online.’

Click on the bubble next to the qualification you’re pursuing in the first section.

 

If you already have a student ID, select yes. If not, select no.

Fill in your information and then follow the prompts.

When you’re finished, you’ll need to submit the necessary documents.

 

Document submission

Navigate to the page titled ‘Apply for Admission: Application Tool.’

Click on the ‘Documents’ bubble.

Fill in your details

Select the corresponding files from your device by clicking on choose file.

Select ‘Upload.’

Once you’ve finished submitting all of your documents, click ‘Submit documents and continue.’

You must now pay the application fee.

Fees for applications

Use both the Unisa student number and the application fee reference number (ie STUDENTNUMBER 5370810030).

 

This fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa, do not qualify for admission to Unisa, or are unable to be offered a space due to a lack of available spaces. At any of its offices, Unisa does not accept cash.

How to Follow the Status of Your UNISA Application

Navigate to the page titled ‘Apply for Admission: Application Tool.’

Scroll all the way to the bottom and click the bubble next to status.

Fill in your information, and it should show you the current status of your application.

If you are chosen, you must accept the offer here.

Scroll all the way to the bottom and click the bubble next to ‘Offer.’

After accepting, you must register before you can consider yourself a Unisa student.
