If your IRP5 is no longer available, you can try retrieving it from your SARS efiling profile.
Step 1: Access SARS efiling.
Step 2: Select the issued returns (to the left)
Step 3: From the drop-down menu, select Personal income tax (ITR12).
Step 4: From the list, select the previously requested tax year (Open) OR from the top right, select the tax year and request the return, then open. The IRP5 should have been submitted to SARS (by your employer) and should have been included on the tax return.
If it isn’t there, click the Refresh data button, check the IRP5 data box, and then click OK. Your return will then be updated with the most recent SARS data. If the IRP5 is still unavailable, you must check your bank statements and payslips to recreate your annual salary information to declare to SARS in your Tax Return. Please keep all supporting documentation for submission to SARS.
How can I obtain a copy of my IRP5?
If your employer / ex-employer has not provided you with your IRP5 or IT3(a) certificate, you can book a virtual appointment or call 0800 00 7277 to book a branch visit for advice on the next steps.
Where can I find a used IRP5?
You must contact your employer and request a letter explaining why they are unable to provide you with the IRP5. In most cases, your employer may not have kept it because SARS only requires them to keep it for 5 years anyway.
When should my employer provide me with my IRP5?
IRP5/IT3(a) Employee Tax Certificate
Where remuneration is paid or has become payable, an employer must issue an IRP5/IT3(a) to the employee.
