Sebokeng was formerly known as Zone 14 is a township in Gauteng province founded in 1984. It is located 30 km south of Johannesburg on the Vaal River and is one of South Africa’s largest townships with an estimated population of over 250 000 people. Its name means “We have started” in Sotho, reflecting its origins as a protest settlement against forced removals under apartheid laws.
^Also known as Emfuleni Local Municipality, Sebokeng is home to the Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve, Vaal Barrage at the end of the Vaal River and Leeuspruit Nature Reserve.
^The town is located in Gauteng and it’s surrounded by many animals like giraffes, lions, and rhinos.
^Sebokeng has a long history with short stories like:
- -A woman who uses witchcraft to kill her husband’s lover and then kills people from other towns until police officers caught her;
- -a man who was killed when he tried to steal money from someone else;
- -a woman who killed her husband because he wanted a divorce after cheating on him with another woman;–The Vaal Barrage which can be found here (and elsewhere) was built over 100 years ago as part of an irrigation scheme designed to help farmers grow crops during droughts.”
