About W&RSETA & University of Johannesburg:
The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in the year 2000 in accordance with the Skills Development Act. Its mission is to develop skills in the Wholesale and Retail sector through various initiatives, including the implementation of learning programs, providing grants, and overseeing education and training in line with the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP).
The W&RSETA introduced its grant scheme in 2011 to support students pursuing qualifications in the retail and wholesale sectors. Through its bursary program, W&RSETA aims to assist students in developing their skills, knowledge, and competencies in this field.
The University of Johannesburg (UJ) Department of Marketing Management is part of the Universities College of Business and Economics. UJ offers a range of undergraduate diplomas, degrees, postgraduate degrees, and courses in Marketing and Retail.
UJ WRSETA Bursary :
The University of Johannesburg and W&RSETA have collaborated to offer the W&RSETA bursary program for students interested in pursuing careers in the wholesale and retail sectors at the University of Johannesburg. This bursary is available to students who have completed their postgraduate studies and wish to continue with Masters or Ph.D. studies or are already enrolled in a Masters or Ph.D. program.

Coverage:
The W&RSETA bursary program will cover the following study-related expenses for students:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Meals
- Accommodation
- Data collection
- Language editing
Bursary Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the W&RSETA bursary program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Must be citizens of South Africa or permanent residents.
- Applicants must have completed their Honors degree in the field of Marketing and Retail.
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% in Research Methodology on NQF level 8.
- Must be enrolled in or intend to study for a Masters degree at the University of Johannesburg.
- Attain a minimum average of 60%.
- Should have a passion for studying retail.
- Must possess an approved Master’s or Ph.D. proposal focusing on the preferred areas.
For Ph.D. Degree Students:
Additional eligibility requirements for Ph.D. applicants are as follows:
- Must have completed a Masters qualification in Marketing or Retail.
- Achieve a minimum score of 65% at the Masters level.
- Attain a minimum score of 60% for Research Methodology on NQF level 8.
- Willing to study or currently enrolled for a Ph.D. at the University of Johannesburg in .
- Must possess an approved Masters or Ph.D. proposal focusing on the preferred areas.
How to Apply:
- New Applicants: Students must apply online through the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Marketing Management website. After the application is accepted by the DREC, applicants can email wrsetagauteng@gmail.com to receive further instructions on the required documents.
- Masters/Ph.D. Students: Current Masters and Ph.D. students should download and complete the application form. The specified documents must be submitted along with the form.
Closing Date:
- For current Masters and Ph.D. students: 19 August.
- For new Masters and Ph.D. enrollments: 31 October.
