About the Rothschild & Co Foundation:
Rothschild & Co is a prominent independent financial services group known for specializing in long-term investments and innovative financial solutions. In South Africa, Rothschild & Co South Africa (established in 2012) recognizes the pivotal role of education in addressing societal issues such as poverty, unemployment, inequality, and poverty alleviation. As part of their commitment to education, Rothschild & Co South Africa focuses on providing scholarships for postgraduate and honors degree studies, with a specialization in Commerce and Finance.
The foundation has already awarded 40 scholarships valued at R5.2 million between 2013 and 2018. Due to the success of these scholarship awards and the company’s growing prominence, Rothschild & Co South Africa aims to increase the number of scholarship awards to between 20 and 40 each year.
About the Rothschild & Co Foundation Scholarship Program:
The Rothschild & Co (South Africa) Foundation Scholarship program for 2025-2026 invites students to apply for scholarships for Honours degree studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) or the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in specific fields. These fields include:
- Accounting Science (Honours or PGDA)
- Actuarial Science
- Business Science
- Computational and Applied Mathematics
- Data Analytics
- Econometrics
- Mathematical Science
The scholarship program aims to support underprivileged and deserving postgraduate students, providing them with a solid educational foundation for long-term employment. The scholarship also equips candidates with the resources necessary to succeed in the South African financial service sector.
Expenses Covered by the Scholarship:
The scholarship will cover various expenses, including tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, meals, an allowance, and other student expenses. The total value of the scholarship will depend on the candidate’s financial need and other funding sources.
Eligibility Requirements for the Rothschild & Co Foundation Scholarship:
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric
- Third-year student status
- Intention to pursue an Honours degree in one of the specified fields in 2025-2026
- Study at the University of Johannesburg or the University of Witwatersrand
- Demonstrated financial need
- Successful completion of all undergraduate studies
- Passing of 2023 mid-year exams
- Involvement in or participation in community work during university studies

- 2023 mid-year results
- An updated and brief Curriculum Vitae
- Proof of financial need
- Proof of involvement in community work during university studies
