ABOUT THE COMPANY – WCDOA / EATI
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) plays a crucial role in providing development, research, and support services to the Western Cape province. Agriculture is a cornerstone of economic growth and job creation in the province, making it a vital sector for sustainability and prosperity.
The Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI), established in 1898, holds the distinction of being South Africa’s first agricultural college. EATI offers bachelor’s degree studies in Agriculture in collaboration with the University of Stellenbosch’s Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. The institute focuses on training, educating, and developing skills in agricultural production for aspiring specialists. EATI operates as a Chief Directorate of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.
ABOUT THE WCDOA / EATI BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) invites students to apply for bursary funding at the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursaries will be awarded for the following qualifications:
- B.Agric Degree
- Diploma in Agriculture
- Equine Studies
The B.Agric degree program covers various study fields, including Plant Production, Animal Production, Cellar Technology, Cellar Management, Extension and Plant Production, and Extension and Animal Production.
The Diploma in Agriculture program is a three-year course with specializations in Plant Production, Animal Production, Plant and Animal Production, or Cellar Technology.
Equine Studies follows the Equine Qualifications Authority of South Africa (EQASA) syllabus, covering all aspects of horse care and stable yard management.

Successful applicants will be contacted in November. If you do not receive feedback by January 31, 2025-2026, consider your application unsuccessful.
Bursary recipients may not hold more than one bursary with service obligations.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WCDOA / EATI BURSARY
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Enrolled or intending to enroll at the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI) for one of the specified courses
- Meet the minimum admission requirements for studies at EATI:
For the B.Agric degree (M +3 years):
- Completed Matric (NSC) with admission to bachelor’s degree studies
- Minimum overall average of 55% in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
- Minimum level 4 (50%) for Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language)
- Minimum level 4 (50%) for Mathematics or level 5 (60%) for Mathematics Literacy
- Minimum level 4 (50%) for Physical Sciences OR Life Sciences OR Agricultural Sciences
For the Diploma in Agriculture (M + 3 years):
- Completed Matric (NSC) with admission to diploma studies
- Minimum overall average of 40% in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
- Minimum level 3 (40%) for Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language)
- Minimum level 3 (40%) for Mathematics or level 4 (50%) for Mathematics Literacy
- Minimum level 3 (40%) for Physical Sciences OR Life Sciences OR Agricultural Sciences OR
- Completed a Senior Certificate with a minimum overall average of 40% and a minimum of 40% for SG for Biology, Science, or Mathematics
For Equine Studies (M + 1 year):
- Completed Matric (NSC)
Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students, including female applicants, black applicants, those with disabilities, and applicants with financial need.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE WCDOA / EATI BURSARY
To apply for the WCDOA / EATI Bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute Bursary Application Form 2025-2026.
- When asked how you heard about the EATI bursary, enter “Uni24.co.za.”
- Submit clear copies of the required supporting documents along with your completed application form. Ensure that all documents are certified and not older than three months.
