The faculty requirements for various degree programs at a university are outlined below. These requirements include specific subject prerequisites, extended studies options, and points needed for automatic admission. Here’s a breakdown:
1. Commerce:
Subjects Required: Mathematics.
Extended Studies Points: 34 – 37.
Dean’s Discretion Points: 38 – 44.
Automatic Points: 45+.
2. Education:
Subjects Required: Two Languages, Mathematics/Mathematics Literacy.
Extended Studies Points: 32 – 39.
Automatic Points: 40+.
3. Humanities:
Extended Studies Points: 30 – 34.
Dean’s Discretion Points: 34 – 44.
Automatic Points: 45+.
4. Pharmacy:
Subjects Required: Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences.
Extended Studies Points: 40 – 44.
Automatic Points: 45+.
5. Science:
Subjects Required: Mathematics, Physical Science or Life Science.
Extended Studies Points: 38 – 44.
Automatic Points: 45+.
Additional Information:
Life Orientation: Not counted for points, but a minimum level is required for acceptance.
South African Senior Certificate Candidates (Pre-2008): Must submit a certified copy of their matriculation exemption certificate with their application. An exemption pass is required for acceptance.
Law Program:
Admission from 2020: A number of students will be admitted into the first year of the LLB program, intending to complete the LLB in four years.
Alternative Access Points to LLB:
- Students who have obtained a first Bachelor’s degree with Law as one of the major subjects can complete the LLB degree in two years.
- Those with a Bachelor’s degree without Law as a major can complete the LLB degree in three years.
