Africa Skills provides a variety of accredited learning programs aimed at developing skills and building career paths. Here’s an overview of their offerings, apprenticeships, and funding options:
Accreditation and Skills Development Training:
Africa Skills is accredited as a Private Technical and Vocational Training College.
Their accreditation is monitored and audited by various Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) and the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET).
Skills Development training provided by Africa Skills is an employer-provided opportunity for employees in the workplace.
Learnership Registration and Tax Incentives:
Upon registering a Learnership Agreement with a SETA, employers become eligible for tax incentives from the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
Programs Offered:
Business Skills Programmes: Includes Business Administration Services, Customer Care, DebtSAVVY, Equip – John Maxwell, Generic Management, HIV and Aids in the Workplace, New Venture Creation, Personal Leadership (Brightstar), The Leader, The Supervisor, Ward Councilor, and more.
Hospitality Programmes: Covers Accommodation Services, Au Pair with Flair, Clean Cleaning, Domestic Services.
Apprenticeships & RPL Programmes: Includes Welding, Electrical, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Carpentry.
Hairdressing: Offers comprehensive training in Hairdressing.
Artisan Training and Development:
Artisans are vital for the economy, and apprenticeships offer a combination of work and training for a nationally recognized qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows skilled laborers to gain recognition and certification.
The South African Government has marked Apprenticeship Development as a priority.
Apprenticeship and RPL Details:
Apprentice Candidates: 3-year contract with theoretical and practical training, culminating in a trade test.
RPL Candidates: For individuals with at least five years of relevant experience, involving gap training and a trade test.
Training Venues:
Training is conducted at the Thembalethu Training & Trade Test Centre in George, other offices in George and Vredenburg, hired premises, or in-house client premises.
Hostel accommodation is available for apprentices/students in Thembalethu.
Funding Options:
- Self-funding by individuals or employers.
- Learnerships and apprenticeships funded by SETAs.
- Skills Programmes funded by individuals, employers, or SETAs.
- Training funded by SETA based on Workplace Skills Plans.
