African Academy Courses Offered 2025-2026
African Academy offers a structured admission process for its various programs, each with specific entry requirements. Here’s a summary of the general admission procedures, technical aptitude assessment, financial aid options, and additional information for different categories of applicants:
General Admission Procedures:
- Initial Contact: Prospective students contact African Academy.
- Application Submission: Complete and submit the Application for Admission with required documents.
- Admission Assessment: Attend an assessment at the Academy.
- Qualification Confirmation: If qualified, the student receives a phone call.
- Acceptance and Registration: Complete an enrollment contract and pay a deposit to secure a place. Deposit amounts vary by program.
- Fee Payment: Pay full program fees before classes start.
- Program Commencement: Begin the program according to the academic calendar.
Technical Aptitude:
- All applicants must take a Potential Battery Index (PBI) test to assess their aptitude for computer-aided drawing and draughting.
Financial Assistance/Aid:
- Available for learners with a gross monthly household income below R 8,000.00.
- Applicants must complete the official African Academy Application for Financial Assistance and provide proof of income.
Admission Documentation:
- New learners must submit certified records of qualifications, latest school/college results, and a certified copy of their identity document.
- Married or divorced women need to provide proof of their maiden name where certificates are in their maiden name.
Foreign Learners:
- Must pay the full cash fee upon acceptance and registration.
- Required to pay all additional fees in full before classes start.
- Need to present a certified copy of their passport and a valid study permit on registration.
- Must provide an evaluation of their foreign schooling from HSRC – SAQA.
Minors:
- Registration forms for minors must be co-signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
- Applicants with previous studies at other accredited institutions should consult the Academy’s RPL Policies and Procedures.
Language Policy:
- English is the medium of instruction and internal governance.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English.
Note:
- Registration closes once class quotas are filled, at the discretion of African Academy.
- The Academy may accept late registrations if classes are not filled.
- Management determines final closing dates for registration and enrollment.

This course covers different disciplines of Engineering such as Building, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical and Structural Steel Detailing. Majority of these disciplines are done on a computer with draughting software.

This programme is designed for the individual who wishes to go into the Draughting /Engineering Industry but does not have Mathematics and Physical Science on a Matric level. The course provides a foundation for the students to progress into the Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice course or other Engineering fields.

National Diploma: Structural Steelwork Detailing (NQF Level 5)
Become a specialist in Structural Steelwork Detailing. This qualification has been developed to assist with standardisation across the steel construction industry, it will allow a person to register as a structural steel detail draughtsperson and lay a foundation for future career advancement to supervisory and management qualifications within the sector.

National Higher Certificate: Architectural Technology (NQF Level 5)
Become a specialist in Architectural Technology. The qualification has been developed to provide an introduction to the Architectural profession and its role within the broader context of the Built Environment. It allows for ease of movement to other (related) fields of expertise.

National Higher Certificate: Architectural Technology (NQF Level 6)
Provide academic knowledge, skills and competencies required to practice in the Built Environment as a “Candidate Architectural Technologist”. After a period of supervised practical experience and / or other requirements as specified by the professional registration body, a candidate may register as an “Architectural Technologist”.
