How to Calculate UNISA Year Mark

How to Calculate UNISA Year Mark

To calculate your year mark and final mark at UNISA, you can follow these guidelines:

Calculating the Year Mark:

  1. If you submit both assignments:
    • The year mark is calculated by taking 50% of the mark from Assignment 01 and 50% of the mark from Assignment 02.
    • Formula: Year Mark = (50% of Assignment 01 Mark) + (50% of Assignment 02 Mark)
  2. If you only submit Assignment 01:
    • Your year mark will be 50% of the mark obtained for Assignment 01.
    • If you scored 80% on Assignment 01 and did not submit Assignment 02, your year mark would be 40%.
    • Formula: Year Mark = 50% of Assignment 01 Mark

Calculating the Final Mark:

  • The final mark is a combination of your year mark and your examination mark.
  • However, you must achieve at least a 40% mark in the examination to pass, regardless of your year mark.
  • The final mark is calculated as follows:
    • 10% of your year mark plus 90% of your examination mark.
    • Formula: Final Mark = (10% x Year Mark) + (90% x Examination Mark)

Passing the Module:

  • To pass the module, you need to achieve a final mark of at least 50%.

Example Calculation:

  1. Suppose you scored 80% in Assignment 01 and 70% in Assignment 02. Your year mark would be calculated as follows:
    • Year Mark = (50% x 80) + (50% x 70) = 40 + 35 = 75%
  2. If you then scored 60% in your final examination, your final mark would be calculated as:
    • Final Mark = (10% x 75) + (90% x 60) = 7.5 + 54 = 61.5%

This 61.5% would be your final mark for the module, and since it’s above 50%, you would pass the module. Remember, the requirement to score at least 40% in the examination still applies. If you score below 40% in the exam, your final mark will be the same as your examination mark, and you would fail the module regardless of your year mark.
