Introduction to Capricorn District Municipality
The Capricorn District Municipality, established in 2000, lies within the Limpopo province, one of South Africa’s five districts. This Category B municipality is predominantly rural, with the majority of its population speaking Northern Sotho. The district is uniquely named after the Tropic of Capricorn, which passes through it, and has its administrative capital in Polokwane.

The Capricorn District Municipality is committed to fostering education and development in its region by awarding bursaries to dedicated students. These bursaries are available for National Diploma or Degree studies in the following areas:
- Engineering
- Mining
- Tourism
- Water-related qualifications
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To be considered for this bursary, applicants must meet these requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen and a permanent resident of the Capricorn District.
- Currently completing Matric and intending to pursue full-time studies towards a first National Diploma or Degree.
- Have gained provisional acceptance or are accepted at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Exhibit a strong academic record in Matric.
- Come from a disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.
- Must not be a recipient of any other bursary funding.
Application Process for the Bursary
Interested candidates must:
- Download and complete the Capricorn District Municipality Bursary Application Form (available in PDF format).
- Attach the following mandatory supporting documents:
- Certified copy of ID document.
- Certified copy of Matric certificate.
- Certified proof of tertiary provisional admission/acceptance.
- Proof of residence within the Municipality or a letter from the Traditional Authority (if residing in a village).
- Certified ID documents of parents/guardians.
- Proof of income for parents/guardians (latest payslip or an affidavit if unemployed).
Note: If the provisional admission/acceptance letter is not available at the time of application, submit the application
without it and ensure to provide the statement of results by no later than 10 January.
