CETA Thapelo Madibeng Bursary

About the Bursary Provider – Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA):

The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) was established in 2000 with the aim of promoting training and skills development within the construction industry. As an Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) accredited organization, CETA is responsible for initiating skills projects and learnerships to improve the human resources and workforce in the construction industry.

CETA focuses on developing a strong skills base as the foundation for economic empowerment and infrastructural development. The construction industry is divided into four sub-sectors: Materials Manufacturing, Built Environment Professions, Building Construction, and Roads and Civil Construction.

The CETA has renamed their bursary program to the “Thapelo Madibeng Bursary” in memory of the late Mr. Thapelo Madibeng, a core business executive who passed away in August 2018.

Thapelo Madibeng Bursary Program:

The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) is inviting students to apply for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary Scheme for the academic year. The bursary is available for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in construction-related qualifications.

Fields covered by the bursary program include, but are not limited to:

  • Architecture
  • Building Arts
  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Economics
  • Construction Management
  • Construction Studies
  • Geomatics
  • Property Development
  • Quantity Surveying
  • Urban and Regional Planning

The bursary is open for studies at public universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges in South Africa.

Expenses Covered and Renewal:

The bursary will cover various expenses up to a maximum value of R120,000. These include registration fees, tuition fees, books, accommodation, meals, and other necessary expenses for completing the qualification, as determined by CETA.

Bursaries are reviewed annually and may be renewed based on satisfactory academic performance and other applicable criteria determined by CETA.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • 35 years old or younger
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying full-time or part-time towards a construction-related qualification listed in the bursary program
  • Registered to study at a public institution in South Africa
  • Meet the eligibility criteria of the institution
  • Achieved the minimum academic pass mark in the current year of study
  • Not receiving funding from CETA or any other public funding scheme
  • Not an immediate family member of a CETA employee
  • Preference given to candidates from designated groups, including applicants with disabilities, female applicants in construction or built environment fields, applicants from rural areas in construction or built environment fields, and unemployed applicants willing to pursue studies in construction or built environment fields.

Application Process:

Applicants must submit their applications online through the provided application link. Required supporting documentation includes ID documents, Matric certificate, tertiary academic record (if currently studying), proof of acceptance to study at a tertiary institution, and parents’ or guardians’ ID documents and proof of income.

Closing Date:

The closing date for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary is 10 February . Applicants are advised to submit their applications before the closing date.
