Chris Hani District Municipality Bursary Programme: Scope and Opportunities

The Chris Hani District Municipality is excited to offer a bursary programme for the 2021 academic year, aimed at students who have completed Matric and reside within its local municipalities. The CHDA Bursary is open to those pursuing a National Diploma or BSc degree in various fields, including:

  • Agriculture: Agronomy, Analytical Chemistry, Animal Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, Pasture Science, Soil Science.
  • Engineering: Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical.
  • Information Technology: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Science, Systems, Software Engineering, Network Administration.
  • Mining: Mining Engineering, Geology.
  • Environmental Science: Waste Management and related disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria for the Bursary Programme

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens residing in one of the Chris Hani District’s local municipalities.
  • Have completed Matric with a minimum overall average of 60%.
  • Have gained acceptance to study in the aforementioned fields at a South African public University or University of Technology.
  • Belong to a previously disadvantaged community and demonstrate financial need, with a household income not exceeding R15,000 per month.
  • Be willing to serve the CHDM post-graduation, if required, for a period equal to the bursary duration.

Applicants must submit the following documents with their application:

  • South African ID and birth certificate (certified copies).
  • Matric final results and official certificate (certified copies).
  • Proof of acceptance into a relevant study program.
  • Proof of residence in the Chris Hani District Municipality.
  • Parents’/guardians’ ID documents and proof of income or unemployment.
