A. NCV Registration & Advancement Information: Attention all present and prospective students planning to enroll in NC(V) programs this January: Registration doors are open from 08:00 to 15:00 daily. It is advised to arrive promptly to begin the process.

  1. Enrollment Window for Students

Registration for all NCV courses kicks off in January at these locations:

  • As Salaam Campus (Braemar) – Focused on Business and Engineering Studies
  • Durban Campus (Jameson Crescent) – Offering General Studies and Engineering Studies
  • Swinton Campus (Swinton Road, Mobeni) – Home to Business and Engineering Studies
  • Ubuhle Bogu Campus (KwaQiko) – Concentrated on Business Studies
  • Umbumbulu Campus (KwaMakhutha) – For Business Studies enthusiasts
  • UmlaziBB Campus (BB Section) – Devoted to Business Studies

  1. Commencement of Classes: It’s crucial for all NCV students to complete their registration by January, aligning with the mandate that NCV classes MUST initiate in the same month, thereby finalizing the enrollment process swiftly.
  2. Returning Students’ Registration Protocol

3.1. Returning students should promptly collect their exam results at their respective campuses. 3.2. Eligible students are expected to apply for NSFAS. 3.3. Those meeting the progression benchmarks will proceed to enroll for their subsequent levels.

  1. Entry Specifications for Newcomers to NCV

4.1. Aspirants for NCV Level 2 in Business and General Studies should have successfully completed Grades 10-11; and Grade 12 with Mathematics is a must for Information Technology and Finance, Economics & Accounting programs. 4.2. Prospective Engineering students need a pass in Mathematics (excluding Mathematical Literacy) from at least Grades 10-11. 4.3. Electrical Construction aspirants may need to clear a Color competency assessment during employment applications.

  1. Progression Requisites

5.1. Advancement to NCV Level 3 requires passing at least 5 subjects at Level 2. 5.2. Moving to NCV Level 4 demands a complete pass of all 7 Level 2 subjects and a minimum of 5 passes at Level 3.

  1. Supplementary Exam Eligibility

6.1. Students with a minimum of three passed subjects may sit for supplementary exams, contingent on specific score thresholds. 6.2. Minimum percentage requirements for supplementary exams span various subjects, with Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at 25-29%, English (First Additional Language) at 35-39%, Life Orientation at 35-39%, and other core subjects needing 45-49%.

6.3. Failure to pass supplementary exams necessitates full-time classes or a recovery program and subsequent re-examination, with the student bearing the re-write fees.

  1. NCV Remedial Initiative

7.1. The established NCV remedial program will be in effect again for the following year. 7.2. Fees for the recovery program are the student’s responsibility, non-payment leading to deregistration.

  1. Certification Standards

8.1. To be awarded an NCV Certificate, students must pass 7 subjects at each NCV Level, totaling 21 subjects for the final NQF Level 4 Certificate. 8.2. Umalusi, as the certifying authority, will issue the certificates, whereas DHET provides result statements.

  1. Financial Aid Insights

9.1. NSFAS is available for qualifying academically proficient and financially needy students. 9.2. Additional NSFAS funding may be allocated for students needing to clear failed subjects to obtain their certificates.

9.3. Repeaters’ Notice Repeaters failing to progress and desiring to re-enroll or switch programs must self-fund their education as they won’t be eligible for financial aid.

  1. Hostel Arrangements

10.1. Hostel accommodations cater to learners from afar, with specific caps on student numbers. NSFAS may not cover all hostel costs. 10.2. Prioritized for high-achieving returnees, the hostel accommodation process is competitive and not guaranteed year-to-year. Strict rules apply to registered and fully enrolled students for hostel eligibility.

  • A comprehensive Hostel Application process is in place, with set criteria for admission.
  • Successful candidates will receive a room and keys upon registration.
  • Unregistered individuals will be instructed to leave the premises.
  • Non-compliance with the application process can lead to legal action for trespassing.

B. NATED / REPORT 191 ENROLLMENT AND ACADEMIC ADVANCEMENT GUIDELINES

Attention all prospective and continuing students planning to enroll in Report 191 programs in January 2016. The registration window will be open daily from 08:00 to 15:00. It is advised that students arrive early to secure their enrollment.

Enrollment Schedule for Students The enrollment period for all Report 191 programs commences in January at the following locations:

  • Umbumbulu Campus, KwaMakhutha: Business & Engineering (Chemical Operations – limited enrollment based on application approval)
  • Umlazi 88 Campus, BB Section: Business Studies
  • Umlazi V Campus, V Section: Engineering Studies
  1. Commencement of Classes Students should complete their registration in January as classes are set to begin shortly thereafter.
  2. Registration Guidelines for Returning Students 3.1 Collect examination results at the respective campuses in January. 3.2 Engage in the NSFAS application process if eligible. 3.3 Register for subsequent levels upon meeting the progression requirements.
  3. Entry Requirements for New Students 4.1 Business Studies (N4-N6) aspirants require NCV Level 4 (21 subjects across L2-L4) or a National Senior Certificate (Matric). Course enrollment is influenced by prior subjects and academic direction.
  • For Management Assistant N4: Grade 12 Typing or Computer Typing is necessary. Lacking this, an introductory course must be completed first.
  • For Financial Management N4: Grade 12 Accounting is required. Without it, students begin with an introductory course.

4.2 Engineering Studies (N2) candidates need Grade 10-12 Mathematics. Those with Mathematical Literacy must start with N1 Engineering Studies. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is part of the enrollment process.

4.3 Note for Electrical Engineering candidates: Employment may require passing a Color Competency Test.

  1. Academic Progression and Enrollment Details 5.1 General progression criteria necessitate passing 3 subjects with at least 40%. 5.2 For Tourism and Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP), specific subject percentages apply, as detailed in the previous document. 5.3 Additional enrollment conditions include restrictions on registering for multiple levels simultaneously and prerequisites for subject registration. Completion of all ICASS assessments before exams is mandatory.
  2. Certification Guidelines 6.1 DHET provides Statements of Results, while Umalusi issues certificates for N1-N3, and QCTO for N4-N6. Diplomas require additional in-service training, verified through employer documentation.
  3. NSFAS Information 7.1 Financial aid is available through NSFAS for qualifying students, with adherence to a National Means Test. Post-N6 aid is available for six months to complete certification requirements. 7.2 Policy prohibits “program hopping” for bursary recipients, and repeaters do not qualify for financial aid.
  4. Hostel Accommodations 8.1 Limited hostel accommodations are available based on distance, academic performance, and adherence to application procedures. NSFAS does not guarantee funding for hostel fees. 8.2 Compliance with the application process is crucial, and only registered students will be considered for hostel space.
