ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER €“ NATIONAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION (NRF)

The National Research Foundation (NRF) is an independent government agency in South Africa established over 20 years ago. It serves as an intermediary between the South African government’s policies and strategies and the country’s research institutions.

The NRF’s mandate is to promote and support research through human resource development, funding, and the provision of research facilities. It plays a vital role in advancing science and technology sectors in South Africa.

The NRF has three major functions:

  1. Research and Innovation Support and Advancement (RISA): This function supports research and innovation through various programs and initiatives.
  2. South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA): SAASTA promotes an interest in science and technology among the public and encourages public engagement with scientific developments.
  3. National Research Facilities: The NRF facilitates research by providing access to national research facilities that enable cutting-edge scientific investigations.

ABOUT THE DSI-NRF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME €“ FIELDS COVERED

The DSI-NRF Postgraduate Student Funding is a scholarship program offered by the National Research Foundation (NRF). It is open to postgraduate students pursuing Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral studies in various fields. These fields include Science, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DSI-NRF SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must meet the following minimum eligibility criteria to be considered for the DSI-NRF Scholarship:

  • Intending to study or currently studying towards a postgraduate qualification (Honours, Master’s, or Doctoral) in the specified fields in 2024.
  • Age requirements: 28 years or younger for Honours, 30 years or younger for Masters, and 32 years or younger for Doctoral studies.
  • Minimum academic achievement: A minimum result of 65%.
  • For Full Cost Study (FCS) funding: South African citizenship or permanent residency, financial need (household family income not exceeding R350,000 per annum), or living with a disability, or exceptional academic achievement.
  • For Partial Cost of Study (PCS) funding: South African citizenship, permanent residency, or international student who meets other minimum requirements.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE DSI-NRF SCHOLARSHIP

Applications must be submitted online through the DSI-NRF Postgraduate Scholarship Application for 2024. When applying, indicate that you heard about the scholarship from “https://uni24.co.za/
