About Film School Africa (FSA):

Film School Africa (FSA) is a Christian institution dedicated to using film as a means to enhance the skills and knowledge of future filmmakers in South Africa. FSA also employs film as a medium for “art therapy” to support personal and creative development.

FSA places a strong emphasis on encouraging outside-the-box thinking and believes that fostering innovation is crucial, especially in a society and economy where youth unemployment is prevalent. The institution strives to produce creative, inspired, and innovative students who can make a positive impact in the creative industry.

About the FSA Bursary Program:

Film School Africa (FSA) is inviting students to apply for the Film College Bursary Programme for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursary program covers studies at Film School Africa College in Somerset West, Western Cape, and encompasses the following fields:

  1. Preproduction Arts (Screenwriting, Casting, Production Design, Locations, Producing)
  2. Production (Cinematography, Lighting, Sound recording)
  3. Post-production (Editing, Sound Editing/Design)

The qualifications offered at FSA include a strong theoretical foundation with a significant focus on practical application.

Coverage Value and Other Opportunities:

The bursary program is awarded to 4 to 6 candidates each year, and the monetary value of the bursary is based on the financial needs of the candidates. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate commitment and effort to make the most of this opportunity.

Third-year students may also have the chance to secure internships at studios and production companies located near the college.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • Intend to study at FSA College in Somerset West (Cape Town)
  • Interested in pursuing studies in any of the specified streams
  • Willing to live on campus for 2 to 3 years until completing studies
  • Willing to contribute in any way according to their ability
  • Able to prove financial need
  • Christian and willing to practice their faith daily, including attending chapel services and devotions

How to Apply for the FSA Bursary:

Candidates should follow these steps to apply:

Step 1: Complete the FSA College Bursary Application Form, and answer three essay questions on the form:

  • Explain why you should be selected to receive the bursary.
  • Provide details about a challenging experience and how you overcame it.
  • Describe your current living situation and your financial situation, including information about your parents or guardians.

Ensure you provide comprehensive information, as this will significantly influence your application. It is preferred that you answer these questions in a Word document and email them to: applications@filmschoolafrica.org.

Step 2: Attach clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application:

  • Three months of your latest bank statements
  • Three months of your parents’ or guardians’ latest bank statements

Step 3: Complete the FSA College Application for Film Studies. Candidates will receive further instructions via email after completing the first two steps.

Closing Date for the FSA Bursary:

The closing date for the FSA Bursary is 15 September. Ensure that you submit your application before this date to be considered.
