As of 28 February 2022, South Africa had administered 31,439,128 doses of vaccines throughout the nation, according to health officials.
As a result of the ongoing epidemic in the nation, South Africa has launched a vaccination programme against the virus that causes the coronavirus illness 2019 (COVID-19), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
South Africa’s countrywide immunisation campaign against COVID-19 began on February 17, 2021. The scheme will be implemented in stages, with frontline workers in healthcare and those over 60 years old receiving priority. The three vaccines—Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Pfizer-BioNTech, and Oxford-AstraZeneca—have all been accepted by South Africa. The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been suspended following a tiny research that questioned its efficacy against the Beta strain.
Registration
People 12 and older could register for the COVID-19 vaccine as of October 20, 2021. Currently, there are 5 options for registering for the vaccination, including online via the EVDS system. All services are zero rated, which means they may be used without using any airtime, data, or money.
Ordered vaccinations
With 320 million doses of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to be produced locally for both local and international distribution, South Africa has ordered 60 million doses of vaccines, received 52.6 million doses in donations, and anticipates receiving a total of 9 million doses from Covax. 11,059,420 doses of vaccine have been delivered to South Africa, of which 1.5 million have been approved for local manufacture.
Locations for vaccination
As of August 28, there are 1397 different locations across the country where you can get the COVID-19 vaccine. No matter whether they are insured or not, any person who qualifies for a vaccination will be assigned to the best location. As Phase II and Phase III work picks up, it’s anticipated that there will be 3,338 locations where vaccinations will be given. Currently, it is intended to use all pharmacies and hospitals countrywide, including Clicks, Dis-Chem, to dispense vaccines.
